l International Conference Neurosciences: A multidisciplinary approach

Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico - Ponce Campus

Saturday, October 19, 2019

8: 00am to 5:00 pm

Jesus Guillén -  Astrophysicist, professor, blog author  School with Brain  and author of Neuroeducation in the classroom: From theory to practice.

Topic: Neuroeducation in the classroom: from theory to practice

Do emotions influence learning? Is it possible to improve care? How can we make proper use of memory? If we play, do we learn? Are the arts important in education? Is it necessary to bet on active learning? Do we need to cooperate?

Based on the most recent scientific knowledge, Jesús C. Guillén offers you a new educational perspective on these and many other issues, in which it is considered essential to attend to the emotional, social and physical needs of all children and adolescents and to learn from and for life. Because, indeed, a new education is possible and necessary. Toast to the change?

David Vásquez - Clinical Psychologist / Neuropsychologist

Topic: Neuropsychology of ADHD: Current Models for the Assessment and Stimulation of Attention

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a disorder with three basic characteristics: inattention, impulsivity and hyperactivity (Polanczyk et al., 2007).

Traditionally, neuropsychological studies have prioritized impulsivity in ADHD, establishing a widespread connection between impulsivity and a deficit in executive functions (Arns et al., 2009).

However, recently, various investigations have focused on a deeper understanding of deficits in attention (Tamm et al., 2013). In particular, the clinical model of attention of Sohlberg and Mateer (2001) has been used to improve the process of evaluation and intervention of the typical attention deficits of ADHD.

The objective of this presentation will be to present a systematic framework of action for the evaluation and stimulation of attention in children with ADHD. This framework contemplates both the stimulation of attention deficiencies and the contextual changes (school, home, etc.) that are required to improve the adaptation of these children.

Prof. Maribel de Jesús Rivera - Occupational Therapist

Topic: Occupational Therapy from the perspective of neuroscience

Through this presentation the participants will learn about the role of an Occupational Therapist in the learning process. They will know the importance of sensory processing and motor development and its role in learning. They will be able to identify signs that may suggest difficulties in sensory processing during different stages of development. They will get different recommendations to promote good sensory processing and the different alternatives that exist to work with them.
